Macronutrient ratios: this product contains carbohydrates and protein in a 1:1 ratio which is good for lean muscle gains. It departs from the higher carb ratios that are typical of most meal replacement powders.

Carbohydrate source: the product uses fine Scottish oats which earns this product a 5 star for innovation. The great majority of meal replacement powders, be it weight gain or weight loss formulas, use maltodextrin and usually a blend of simple sugars like sucrose and dextrose which are all high GI carbohydrates. The GI of oats is much lower and ensures a sustained release of energy. The oats powder is minimally processed also. Some of the carbs come from lactose which are intrinsically present in the dairy protein sources used in the product

Protein source: the protein in this product comes from a blend of milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate and egg white powder. The ratio of each is not given but the protein comes mostly from milk protein concentrate as it listed first. Milk protein concentrate is a blend of casein and whey protein in the usual ratio found in milk (80:20). Therefore, the product is a blend of native casein (slow digesting), whey protein (fast digesting) and egg protein (slow digesting). I give this protein formulation a 5-star rating because it does not use a blend of whey isolates and concentrates and neither does it use calcium caseinate (a fast digesting version of casein).
